Itinerary of 3 days Fes desert tour to Marrakech via Merzouga
DAY 1: FES - IFRANE - MIDELT - ZIZ VALLEY – MERZOUGA
After breakfast, we will start Fes to Marrakech desert tour 3 days towards the southeast, following the caravan routes to Merzouga. During this trip, you will see glimpses of the Middle Atlas Mountains, and you will stop at the Cedar Forest, the largest in Morocco, over the Middle Atlas Mountains – where you will see Barbary macaques. After lunch in Midelt, you will continue through the large, open, hilly desert, and notice how the landscape changes to reveal hints of desert as you approach the city of Errachidia. Continues along the luxurious Ziz Valley and the palm grove of Tafilalet, famous for its date cultivation. This region is the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty – the current royal family of Morocco.
Upon your arrival in Merzouga, you will take a camel trek through the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi to your luxury camp, half way a camel man will stop for you so that you can enjoy a beautiful sunset in the desert as the sun hides behind the mighty sand dunes. In the camp there are tents equipped with a shower and a bathroom. The guys will play desert music for you while you dance around the fire. Overnight in a luxury desert camp.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA – RISSANI - TODRA GORGES – BOUMALNE DADES
Early in the morning the stuff in the camp will wake you up for the most beautiful sunrise in the desert After breakfast at your camp, your Fes to Marrakech desert tour 3 days begins with a trip towards the beautiful Dades Valley. In the city of Rissani, the cradle of the current Moroccan monarchy, where we will take a tour inside its old market to visit the Berber herbal pharmacy and date markets. Then we will continue to visit the city of Erfoud, the capital of excavations and dates in Morocco, and then we will visit the irrigation system that dates back to the eleventh century with the Khotarat. After lunch, we will drive to the Toudra Valleys, stopping at a panoramic view of the beautiful Toudra Valley. Upon reaching the majestic canyons, we will wander inside. Continue to Dades Valley, and we’ll drive inside the valley to visit the strange rock formation known locally as Monkey’s Toes. Overnight in Dades
DAY 3: DADES VALLEY - KASBAH AIT BEN HADDOU - TIZI N'TICHKA PASS - MARRAKECH
You will leave Dades Valley after breakfast and head to Ouarzazate, a city that is home to one of the strongholds of the Glaoui family, the Kasbah of Taourirt. Next, you will drive to Ait Ben Haddou, one of the most preserved kasbahs in the entire Atlas region and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has been the backdrop for many popular historical films, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Last Temptation of Christ and Gladiator. So, as soon as you enter the Kasbah, you will be reminded of an ancient world that seems somewhat familiar! Not only that, but you can also visit a Telouet, a not so famous Kashbah. It will take about an hour. The icing on the cake will definitely be lunch with a local (and once famous) artist who will perform for you as soon as you have finished your delicious meal. You will then head to Marrakech. On your way, you will pass through the Tizi n Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains, which is known to have 340 bends; however, in reality there are only 2 turns (left and right) which have been repeated many times! Your trip for the day will end in Marrakech.
